Mallorca, Spain (9/10)
While a little bit harder to get to than some of our other regions (there are no direct flights), Mallorca really does have it all as cycling destinations go.
The island seems built for cycling - quiet roads (with big shoulders for safety), a perfect mix of hilly and flat cycling routes, excellent cycling (bike rentals, |

Route Variety 8/10
There are not a lot of roads on the island but there is a very full weeks worth of excellent cycling routes. Pro teams come here to train off season for a reason. |
Hills: 9/10 and 8/10
Something for everyone. Hills (and mountains) for those who want them, farmland and vineyards for those who want flatter routes. |
Cycling Safety 9/10
Overall the residents of Mallorca know that their economy relies on tourism and to a large degree cycling. So there is every incentive to steer clear of cyclists. As elsewhere in Europe, there is just not the animosity that North American cyclists often face. (Though just steer clear of Palma where all bets are off.) |
Non-cycling Interest: 8.5/10
History, scenery, hiking, markets, fine wine and dining, Mallorca hits all the highlights for off the bike activities too. |
Weather and Seasons 9/10
Except that July and August are basically too hot for cycling, so the summer is OUT. |
